Taylor Pony Farm Congress/National Champions

The "Biggest" show for Shetlands is the American Shetland Pony Club Congress. This is the ASPC equivalent to the Super Bowl. The first Congress Show was in 1947 in Iowa. It moved from Iowa to the Ohio State Fair in 1968. It was moved to Gordyville, IL, in 1998 where it joined with the Classic Congress... The ASPC Classic Division was created in 1984, when they were separated from the "Moderns." The first Classic Congress was at Columbus, Ohio, then moved to Greenville, Ohio, and then on to Mason City, Iowa, and finally to Gordyville, Illinois.

The ASPC Modern show has 2 primary divisions, Halter and Performance. In each division there are categories, in Halter, there is the Over and Under Stallions, Mares, and Geldings. In Performance, there is the Over and Under Fine Harness, Roadster, and Pleasure

Since the Classic division was started, they have 4 categories, Halter Mares, Halter Stallions, Halter Geldings, and Pleasure Driving. In 2000, the Classic division was further split into a Foundation division.

The American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) was created around 1975. In 1998 the AMHR started their "National Show" which is the equivalent of the Shetland Congress. The show started in Gordyville, IL, moved to Columbia, MO, and is currently held in Tulsa, OK. The AMHR has both an Over Division for horses that are 34-38," this division is sometimes referred to as the "B" division. The Under division is for horses Under 34," they are frequently referred to as the "A" horses.
